Here is a couple of pictures of some snails I found out in the Ocean near Daytona beach. They seem like large sand sifting snails but wanted to know what kind they are and if they would be good sand stirers for my new 280g. Thanks

Hi Low,
Your snails are a kind of Moon Snail, Neverita duplicata. They will certainly bulldoze through your sand, but since they are predators, you might or might not want them in your tank. They mainly feed on clams, but are capable of killing other animals.

Thanks for the ID i kept searching for florida saltwater snails but could not come up with anything.
What other animals would you worry about them eating? Also do you think they would survive long term basically eating left over food on the bottom?
Thanks for all of the info.

I dunno. They won't exactly scavenge, but you might get them to eat diced shrimp or something like that. They are fairly large, so there's almost no way they'd get enough leftovers to survive long term.
Cheers,
Don
