Hey-
I'm running a JBJ nano 24- I put a saphhire aquatics protein skimmer in chamber 2, which is running great.
In chamber 1 I have a small bag of Chemi-Pure Elite at the bottom-
But near the top I have a square of Pura Pad cut out to stay under the surface skimmer entrance. Problem was I couldn't get the pura pad to stay in place and it would sink all the way down and not be filtering all the flow.
I wedged a sponge (kind that comes with the nano) into chamber 1 and I put the Pura Pad on top of it- The sponge doesn't get filled with crap because the PuraPad is catching it all first.
My issue is after about 2 weeks the PuraPad gets really brown on top and the water flow through the pad DRASTICALLY decreases to the point where the water level is less than an INCH below the top of the plasic surface skimmer- Not sure if this is an issue or not, but when the pad is new the water is flowing faster through the surface skimmer and dropping about 3" before entering the chamber- which seems like it's better for the filtration of the tank as a whole that way.
Should I be putting the pad further down the chamber? I'm trying to keep it so the water flows right onto it through the gills.
I haven't seen too many tips on chamber 1 on forums-
Any feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks!
