do you know why my red cap doesn't scroll...instead it just plates out, about 4 in. wide now.

Killer scrolls you got there

how do you get them to scroll?

i read that is has to do with flow. the more flow you have the more it scrolls and the less flow the more it plates...or is it the other way around..

Yes, you need to have sufficient flow to make the caps scroll, otherwise, they just plate out in one plane.

Also, if you epoxy one to the bottom of a verticle pipe or branch rock, it will swirl as it grows towards the light.

nice pics. Do you all have to periodically trim yours too? I just had to thin out 2 PRETTY pieces in my 90 because they were shading too many corals below them.

In my experience they won't start to scroll until they get to a certain large size (probably greater than 6" diameter or more).
I'm sure flow helps, but size is probably more of a factor.

I'm hoping that once mine get a certain size it will start to grow more verticle and less horizontal

Break pieces off of the edge, and place them in the ceter of the cap.

ill try that, just put them on top or glue them

Just set them on there, as long as you don't have a ton of flow right at it, it should be fine. If you do just wedge them in at the
base if you can. This usually cases the area you broke to scroll,
as well as the new growth IME.
