I have a unique looking item growing in my tank. It appeared a few weeks ago out of no where and has grown pretty substantially since then. My best description is that it is shaped almost like the bud of a flower...its sides are somewhat translucent....the edges appear to have some sort of short pollup on them and it is just barely attached (not a very solid attachment to the rock). Here is a photo, I just tried to take a more recent one since it has grown more but my battery is dead in the camera so can post another pic later if needed. I am relatively new to this hobby so really no clue what this is. Any idea?

Looks like a Red algae Fauchea species or maybe Rhodophyta. Both are types of red algae. They are harmless from what I read. Here's a link on different types of algae.

I have this in my tank. Red macro algae, harmless and is pretty and will out compete nuisance algae for nutrients. It can easily be removed if it gets to numerous.
