Who is keeping anemones in there nanos? I have a small RBTA right now in my AP 24 and my true purcs love it. I know its only a matter if time its going to grow out my tank. What anemone have you all had best of luck with in a Nano?

Very Nice. Mine has been in the same spot for some time now, but its only a matter of time that spot gets smaller. I just looking for some ideas to what anemone would not out grow my AP and that my clowns would host.

i think all will outgrow a nano.better off getting bigger tank when that happens

I too would love an anemone in a nano. I think all speices would get too big though.

I still might try a Haitian Reef Anemone (HRA) with a clown. Some people say clowns won't host in them. I think since there is so many inverts that people's clowns have used as nem substitutes, there is a chance here.

Stichodactyla Tapetum is the only Nano sized nem...clowns wont host in it though...the one i used to have maxed out at 4" across.

might get lucky and the anemone might split and you can remove the split.

How about a cluster of duncans? Anybody try that?

I have a GBTA in my 30g breeder. It has been getting very large lately and a couple nights ago it split. The main portion stayed in place and the split is now behind a rock next to a powerhead that I had to turn off.

So much for them.

I have actually heard of clowns hosting in colonies of duncans. Just know that not all clowns will host and they won't always host what you want them to host.

Yeah, I think in a nano you can have something that looks like a nem and the clowns won't have to host it, the close proximity of a nano can make it look like the clowns are hosting in a nem-looking substitute.

Yeah, I like that. I will call it cherub's law of nem-substitute proximity.

I have a good sized colony of duncans and the clowns don'y host in them. As a matter fact the clowns I have in two tanks are both captive propagated and neither pair hosts in anything.

Of course it might be because they're the only fish in their tanks and don't need to protect territory.

Which one is the bta? The one on top or the one in the middle? And what's the other?

The bta is in the top left corner. The middle looks like a torch coral and it looks like there is a goniopora(flower pot coral) in the bottom right.

chazde3 you got the corals right!

I personally would never keep a hosting anemone in anything smaller then a 30, and even with a 30 still limited which anemones can be kept in there long term.

The last BTA I had was over 15" across when I sold it, and it split every 5 months or so.

Todd....gotta agree, But I would say no smaller then a 75 gallon.

I had a BTA that I had to move to a 30 gallon for a few weeks. It seemed to be fine so I left it there. After 8 weeks ( and good feeding ) that sucker out grew the tank & I sold it. I may add a BTA when I get my 180 up & running, but not sure.

I've got a RBTA in my 30 cube. It was 4" when I got it from a fellow reefer last fall and it's now about 8" fully expanded. I've seen some huge rbta's, so I'm leaving plenty of room for this one to expand. I just redid some things in the tank that affected the flow, so the nem is on the move. I had a rtn event in the tank on sunday, so there's no worry about the rbta stinging my corals while it roams around.

Has anyone heard of Sebae nems splitting? The problem is I like BTAs because they split and it's well know they don't get too big for a tank because they split and stay little. It's just I don't like the bubble tips on the BTAs. Some say if you don't feed them, then the bubbles go away.

I have never heard of a Sebae splitting.

I never was lucky enough to have a BTA stay small, the last one I had was over 15" across when I sold it -- and it didn't have any bubble tips.

I have a 12g nano and I recently removed my BTRA because it got too big...

http://i720.photobucket.com/albums/ww207/gobygirl420/Picture583.jpg

I replaced it with this one a day ago...

To get it out I had to break it off my main rock. But it is alive and well living in my boyfriends 240g mixed reef. So if your s/o does not have a 240 its likely that your local fish store will take it off your hands. Maybe you can get some store credit!

This forum should have a sticky with pictures and all for nano anemones and nano anemone substitutes. Tank size and hobby experience limit the posibilities for keeping true clown hosting anemones in nano tanks. This would be in tune with making the hobby contientious and taking pressure off the reefs for nems that would die in a lot of tanks.
