I just bought a 90 gallon tank, 36x24x24, but it came with out a pump. The person who owned it before was running an ocean runner 6500 (1700 GPH). His reason was because of restarts and also because the tank runs two 15 gallon sumps underneath. This size pump seems to be a bit excessive to me as a return pump, but I want to make sure I get what I need. I plan on supplementing flow with a ecotech vortech.

Thanks

Nick

The ocean runner 6500 will be fine to run on that tank just put a ball valve on the return so u can adjust the flow.Better to have the extra flow if you need it for whatever reason. If you have the $$$ you could get a Eheim.1262

Look for something in the 300-500 gph range... Mag drive are good ole reliable standbys. Quit Ones are more reasonable far more efficient. Eheims are more expensive, more efficient than mag drives, and probably a little more reliable than the Quietones. THat Oceanrunner was bigtime overkill, I usually shooty for 3-5x turnover.

Look at the ehiems, they are great pumps.

Is this a return pump for your sump? You're gonna need a pump thats a little higher then 300-500. (sorry peter) You'll have head pressure from your sump which will reduce flow significantly.

I use a Quiet One 4000 on my 90g.
It's also dead silent.
