What make are you asking about (ie. cannon, nikon, sony, pentax)? im shooting with a pentax DA* 16-50 F2.8 contiguous as my main wide angle. but i think others here might better direct you for other makes.

heres typical shot from my wide angle at the wide end

I shot with a Nikkor 14-24mm wide angle on my Nikon and use it both on land and underwater (even though its not ideal underwater in my setup). It is however a fantastic lens.

Here's a rather touristy shot I took in London (first day I had the lens and took it out for some practice).

Wide angle lenses can also be used, quite dramatically, for close-up work.

If you've got a crop body camera, 17 isn't very wide. If that's the case, check out the Tokina 12-24; I loved that lens.

Like the others said, 40D is a cropped body (I have a 40D as well). Watch out for vignetting with such wide angle lenses (darkening of the boarders).

This is my first "wide" lens. Really wide at least.

I had the 20mm and it is wide but not really VERY wide. I like the new fisheye but haven't had much time with it yet.

Horseshoe Point, or Dead Horse Point? :D

No, I think that is "Horseshoe Point". There is another place called Deadhorse point where they suppossedly drove the horses over the edge. If I remember corrctly that is in one of the state parks and it isn't as spectacular as Horseshoe. Horseshoe point is just a lookout of the horseshoe shaped bend in the river outside I forget what town..Page maybe.

This was back in the MF film days for me but I remember wishing I had a lens with a wider view.

Ah, Canyonlands. It is a NP then.

PSam - I like the shot of the trail sign. Is that from Bryce?

Thanks & it sure is. I forget which trail it was, however. Maybe Navajo Loop?

lol. Ah, it's the name that threw me. Horseshoe bend sounds more right, and Deadhorse Point. The latter is actually a statepark. It's just outside the border of Canyonlands.

I love Bryce (though I'm not sure what trail that's on). It's where we spent our honeymoon.
