Can you post any pictures of how you have it set up?

Do you have prefilter sponge in last chamber? There is posibility that prefilter sponge get filled with detritus and block the skimmer outlet flow what create syphon problems. Clean or remove sponge.

If you take a look at Coral Vue's Website (http://coralvue.com/pdfs/siphon%20instructions.pdf) for more detailed instructions on how to set the siphon. The main thing is to make sure the intake and the pump intake is covered with water before plugging the pump in. Make sure to keep a finger over the second air hose so it cannot suck in air. Turn the pump on and wait until you can see water flowing through the blue tubing and all the way down into the pump. The water in the skimmer body will start to rise. Once the water starts coming up remove your finger from the other air tube and the siphon is set. It is important to remember while these skimmers are new that there is going to be a ton of micro bubbles stuck to the side walls and coming out of the skimmer. This is a part of the break in process and will subside over time. While these air bubbles are flowing through the new setup they are going to be sucked back into the skimmer and this will cause a pocket of air to build up and break the siphon. You may have to perform the siphon procedure a few times during the break in period, but this will correct itself once the skimmer has been running for at least 3 to 4 weeks.

The skimmer has been running for about ten weeks so its at least approaching break in,... Could very well be a build up of air.... I removed the pump for inspection and noticed that it may not have been fully secured to the air input on the other side of the lefthand divider. So far its been running well for two days with no syphon loss... Im crossing my fingers but Ill definately checkout the CV site for more info..... Ill let you know if it continues to be a problem.. Thanks!

Instructions to Start a Siphon on the HOB models BH-100F and 300F
Locate the John Guest speed fitting on the top of the overflow pipe going into the skimmer.
Insert the blue tubing into this fitting and on the other end slide the air tube going to the skimmer
pump into it. If there is a valve on top of the model that you have then go ahead and open the
valve now. If you do not have the valve then proceed with the next step. Fill the skimmer with
enough water to cover the pump by 2 or 3 inches. Make sure the water in the aquarium is above
the intake pipe. Now turn the skimmer pump on, when you see water flowing through the blue
pipe and through the clear air hose going into the pump remove the clear air hose from the blue
tubing. If your model has the valve then you should close the valve first then separate the blue
tubing from the air hose. Once the air hose is free to suck air the skimmer will start making
micro bubbles. When the skimmer is new it will create an excessive amount of micro bubbles
that will form and stick to the acrylic walls of the skimmer. It maybe necessary to perform the
siphon start up a few times during this break in period. This is a normal function of any protein
skimmer and does not mean you have a defective unit. Please be patient during this break in
period which can take up to 3 to 4 weeks.

Great info...

Well darn it! It did it again today! Im not quite sure what to do with it now... Mike was saying that the pump may be an issue?

The connection (John Quest) on the top of the suction tube, that the blue line is connected to... I do not see a shut off valve on it. Is one there?
(I believe you may have wrong fitting)

Thats correct Charlie, there is no shut off valve. Is there supposed to be one? If so, where exactly does it go and whats its purpose? Thanks!

The quest fitting is supposed to be a shut off valve. I sold my 800 so I do not have a picture. Working on Kayaks right now but, I will look for pic when I get back..

http://www.coralvue.com/Hang-On-The-BackSkimmers.html

the blue tube is connected to suction tube by a fitting that has a valve you shut off. This shut off valve prevents you from loss of pump prime.

(prevents air being pulled in after you prime)

So if Im readingthis correctly, the valve goes between the blue tube and the white tube, after the syphon is made, the valve is to be in the shut position, correct? I need to find that valve, I know the unit came with one, I just dont know what I did with it... lol

Can/have you tilted return sideways? ( pic of return would help)

Sideways? Looks straight to me... As long as you mean vertical..

Any idea why this thing suddenly decided to change water level in the chamber causing overflows??

Did you add anything to the water? Has the pump ever been cleaned?

JD52
07/20/2010, 01:38 PM
Nope and yup... It seems to be doing this more so recently and intermittently random. It acts like theres something in the water but nothings been added. All of a sudden it gets this monster foam head, fills the cup then overflows..

im getting like no skimmate from this skimmer and tons of noise. Rattling noise from pump. I think it keeps getting filled with air. Even though i have the blue pipe inside the clear one so all bubbles get sucked in. Can anyone help?
