hi all

my 9 mnth old 30 gal w/fuge is healthy but i'm suddenly getting mushroom like polyps bursting out everywhere and a quick pace. they're a burgandy like color with orange flecks and actually somewhat attractive under actinices, but they're growing way fast and everywhere.

here's a link to a video. couldn't get a good pic with my camera.

thanks

hmmm...well if red is like green then i doubt it. the green i've had in the past (and a little in the present) is a very shiny bubble. this is a matte color with colorful specs like a mushroom might have.

i dont think its bubble algae. i have some red bubble algae( thats just what i call it) and it doesnt really grow or anything. its not soft but more like a hard algae.

Looks like BA to me, yes you are correct emerald crabs eat BA, atleast majority of them do, it's hit or miss. I would purchase a emerald crab and throw it in there and see what happens over the next few months, wouldn't hurt

well i just threw (2) emeralds in about a week ago. is that enough for a 30 gal?

pull the rocks and scrub asap i had the same bubble algea and it spread all over my tank i had to tear down my tank and start over .even though i did that i still get a few every once in awile and i get it out as soon as i see it . and no emerald crabs wont even look at it.

Will try this. I'm also adding a GFO reactor to help cut down on food for the algae.

I had red bubble algae in my old 30gal, covered everything in just a few months (and I mean everything). Put in 2 Tuxedo Urchins. It was all gone in a week and I never saw any more.
Good luck.
