So how many hide the actual $$$ amount of the item or try to buy one and sneak it in without their spouse noticing? Im guilty.

Every now and then i can get her to go with me to the store. I always take her on order days, for some reason i can spend more without complaint than if i went by myself. She got mad when she looked in a bag the other day and noticed i didnt buy the Pink Birdsnest that she liked, so she made me go back in.

My wife like feather dusters needless to say when my 46 was set up we had a whole lot of dusters! Kind of a peace offering!

My hubby thinks corals are cheap! LOL! He thinks they are anywhere from $3-$10 each...bwahahahaha!

Mine knows what goes into the tank and how much it costs (she usually comes to the LFS)...there is no way I could sneak something in, she would know right away. Besides, I wouldn't hide it from her anyways. She is the one with the much, much more expensive hobby--shopping! Mostly shoes and purses. All my coral combined probably don't equal her most expensive pair of shoes...and mine grow, can be fragged and sold. Her shoes just wear down and get old and tired lol.

No holds barred. Even though we have the money, she knows I won't spend it. Or that I'm content getting the small and watching it grow or get it used thus saving money that way.

I'm a miser. Could have a million in the bank and I'd still buy used or not the top of the line. So if I buy something, she knows it was a good deal.

Our money goes towards trips and treating family and freinds to meals or activities. The stuff I can't hold in my hand and say see what I got. I need to fix that. Or not.

My wife won't work despite my desire that she do so. My only revenge on this topic is extravagent tank purchases!

My wife and I take care of the tanks together and she always knows what goes into them. Sometimes I have to twist her arm on something special but we generally end up getting it.

Would the girlfriend count in this topic??? Its hard to hide the purchases, she always finds a way of finding things like that out. My girlfriend is very crafty and quick on her feet.

I work at a LFS...so when I bring things home I just say, "A customer dropped it off, so I snagged it." or the classic, "I traded a frag for it."

Kind of hard to hide my purchases from the ole lady since I use her credit card.

I do all the house keeping and cooking since she pulls 16hr shifts as an RN, as long as she comes home to a clean house and dinner I have free reign on her CC, well now I cant go ordering a new custom tank or nothing but a hundy here or there isn't a big deal :p

My wife's family is very thrifty. So, in general no matter what I'm buying I cut 30% off when I tell them what it costs and it's always, "on sale..."

I think it is bad practice to hide things from your spouse, so I don't do it.

I traded my wife for a frag pack!

I try to keep $50 bucks from each pay check and put it in my desk at work. Then when I go to pick up a frag I go over to my tank and snip off a shroom put it in a bag and tell her that I am going to swap it out for something.

I don't. It's better to be honest about it upfront than have her find out later and be really mad about it, in my opinion. She is cool about it as long as I don't get too crazy.

I am lucky my wife enjoys the tank. I let her pick out some stuff she likes. In the past I would only put fish I caught in the tank. I now have let my wife pick a few she liked at the store and a few corals she liked. She picked a expensive pair of mated clowns, so I am able to buy what I want now also. She enjoys it as much as me, she really gets into it when we go to the bahamas. I let her pick fish to catch( make sure they are reef safe) then we work together to find and catch them. When you add up what we spend on a weekend in the Bahamas it makes store bought fish a real real bargain.

I am guilty of not so much hiding the purchases but under stating their cost. I recently purchased on Conspic and when asked about that "new pretty fish" I answered "Glad you like it. It was on sale for $125.00 and I could not resist". Man the things we do when this hobby gets a grip on you..

Used to. I am to the point that I have credit with most of the LFs in the area. Life is good for now. Getting to the point where most of your corasl are fraggable is priceless. :-)

We all try to sneak stuff in, duh!

But I also found that if I got my wife to go with me, "Just to look!" we would always wind up buying something.

When I was first setting up my tank it was painful to try and explain why I needed to spend X number of dollars to buy stuff for a tank that was not gonna have water in it for months. Once I got a couple of fish in there that became an easier sell as well.

She doesn't care as long as the tank remains beautiful and I spend out of my part of the budget. Is she shocked sometimes? Sure. Would she rather I spent it on the tank than most of the things I've been addicted to before? Oh hell yes.
