I just got a used Icecap 660. It does not have a heatsink. How important is the heatsink and should I try to get one from Icecap?

I will be running (4) T5's, where is the best (read cheapest) place to get endcaps and reflectors, and lamps too?

Heatsink will increase your ballast's longevity

icecap said its not necessary for the 660-009 models and dont ship them out with heat sinks anymore. i use em tho, and if really pushing it id want them installed.

This is a 660-009, and I will be running 4 T5's.
Is it needed?

How long are the T5s?
Whats the total bulb length?

No, they don't come with them anymore. Just mount it in a well ventilated area, I would place a nut behind it to stand it off of what ever you mount it on.

Or check:

Thanks for the info....good to know.
Thats a good idea about the nut behind it, better air flow that way.
I will be running 4 48" T5's

660 will over driven of 4-48" T5 and will give those light more output than any other T5 ballast but it will shorten the lifespan of the bulb a little bit but who care?I enjoy the high output and willing to pay for the new bulbs when it come in time, don't worry about the heat sink, the ballast doesn't get hot enough to need it,just mount it in good ventilation location.

Ha...thats what I wanted to hear!!!!
Cant wait to get this system up and running!!
It will still be a few months before I am ready to put water in it (actually, it has water now), we are converting it from FO to reef, moving it to a differant room and painting the stand and canopy.....
I still need to get the endcaps/reflectors and get the sump/ref completed...
