I was watching my fish today when all of a sudden this centipede looking creature crawled out from a rock. It only came out for a couple of seconds and then it went back into hiding. Does this description sound familiar and if so, what is it's name?

Thanks, Marsha

Most likely a bristle worm, Marsha. Don't worry about him.

If you read any older reef books, bristleworms are described as harmful. However, as mentioned by the other posters, bristleworms are beneficial detritus eaters. Be careful to avoid touching one, as the hairs on their body can cause irritation.

I had two in my tank and got them out. I just don't like the look of them and if you read Melevs posts a few years back he had to tear down his tank to remove a 4 foot long bristleworm. :eek2:
