View Full Version : BRS's Single GFO reactor will work with my setup?

Hi

I just a moment ago purchased a BRS Single GFO reactor, pump & media and have a question that I perhaps should have asked before purchasing.

I have a rather unique 30 gal reef setup with HOB fuge..no sump. I’m including a fairly recent pic of my setup and was wondering if you could tell me if I’m going to be able to use the reactor with my current setup? Specifically I’m wondering if the hoses on this model will be long enough for me to have the intake and outake both going in to the top of my HOB fuge without having to do any drilling? Until my wife and I find a home this is unfortunately my only option.

Thoughts?

Thanks so much.

So I never got any nibbles on this post but I need to try again. I just received my new BRS single GFO reactor and I have a critical question about it's placement.

As you can see from my setup (it's all i have until we close on a home) my fuge is HOB. Concerning backflow....do I need to attach the reactor to my wall so it's level (water level) with the fuge (and DT) or can I get away with installing it lower like screwed into the top of the stand? Or is that going to be a back pressure issue?

Any suggestions would be MUCH appreciated.

Thanks

What kind of pump did you get for it? As long as the pump is big enough you will be fine mounting it under the tank.

Good luck

I went with the recommended MaxiJet 900...enough?

I don't think the 900 will be enough to mount it under the tank. I have the same reactor with a 900 in my stand above my sump. It is throttled back some but I'm pretty sure it would not pump all the way up to the tank. I would at least mount it even/beside the fuge.

Well I got it installed...so far with the MJ 900 it came with. The tank is becoming a real Frankenstein equipment-wise but I'm hoping to be setting up a much larger tank in the coming months if the wife and I can ever close on the house we're looking at.

Already clearer water and my frogspawn is bleaching a bit which I take it is caused by the sudden reduction in zooxanthellae.

So far so good. Posted a couple pics post-gfo.

Some of the algae's I was pulling....all completely gone.

Some bleaching in the Frogspawn.

pjewett - Did you mount it under the tank or at water level?
