View Full Version : NEW QUESTION Regarding DSB to SSB Conversion

After about 5 years of having a DSB in my 92 gallon reef, I am considering changing to a coarser SSB so that I can clean the gravel to keep up with detritus build-up. I am converting because I believe my DSB has recently been the cause of green algae growth and a bad and long-term cyano problem that I finally had to defeat with chemi-clean after utilizing every other solution.

My question is this - when I re-aquascape the new SSB set-up, should I be concerned with rock placement so that I can clean as much gravel as possible, or will the sand underneath the rock not accumulate detritus and waste because the rock is on top of this?

Thank you.

you may have answered your own question!
;)

ssb can be vacuumed out and replenished as needed
so might keep that in mind as doing rock placement... try to allow for as much space underneath to get under and around etc and blow detritus etc... we sometimes go around the tank w/ a pump to blow off detritus from the LR and around where it accumulates.

good luck.
