i know many people here are agaisnt it but its the only thing i think i can do to save my porcelain crab. hes covered in algae and just wont molt! i tried doing many water changes (gallon every day) but still nothing. i whent and bought some iodine and my question is, it says normally to do 3 drops per day but i dont want to put a lot in so will 2 drops every once in a while work? or does it need to be perfect?

If you cant measure it I would advise against adding it. If you truly feel it is your only option start with half doses. I am not a crab expert. Is it common for them to not molt if covered in algae....

Why not just brush him off with a new, extra soft toobrush in the tank or a pail - then test for iodine, do water changes to bring up to normal and if need be supplement at half recommended dosage?

I believe that most off the shelf 2 parts (b-ionic) have iodine or iodide in them. probably a safer way of boosting it.
I'll check my bottle's ingredient list at home tonight.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I dose iodine using the glug method, open the bottle and pour, stop a two glugs...lol...never had a problem. Reefs aren't as delicate and sensitive as alot of people think.

I also just put a few drops in every week. I do have a test kit though. Every time I have checked it, it was always good. Never had the value be way off, or even close to it.

why does one feel they need to "save" a crab that has algae on it's exoskelton?
this crab is going to molt soon without iodine dosing ;)
