Caught this guy last night. Took about 3 tried to get him.

Now what do I do with him? Sump him or "swirl" him? I'm thinking SWIRLY! :p

Sump or freezer. The freezer is one of the more humane ways to euthanize cold blooded creatures.

I thought it was a some kind of stone crab when I first saw him. Now the hairs look more like a gorilla.

I'm thinking I'll do the freezer and be nice. He probably will get killed in the sump when the water change happens. I put room temp water in there and let it heat up until it goes into the DP.

Im curious as to how a water change would kill it?

the water will be about 10 degrees colder.
Shock him

i'm confused how freezing something to death is "more" humane

If i was closer, i would take him for you! He would do well in my sump of crazy things :-)

i sumped my gorilla crab. you can also try to give them to your LFS, the LFS in my area takes non reef safe crabs for their mantis tank.

He went to the sump for now. Not sure if he will survive the next water change, but he's pretty harmless down there.

If you don't want it just crush it with your fingers and be gone with it. Or there might be someone close by to you who might need it for thier Mantis shrimp, like said above.

Freezing as a more humane means of Euthanizing fish is a myth. It's actually one of the worst!!

I never kill crabs. Why kill a living creature that was unlucky enough to be in a rock that you took to put in your tank. I always throw them in my sump. No harm to your tank, and no harm to the crab.

Honestly, I think the most humane way to euthanize is the garbage disposal.

+1 on the freezer being the worst way to do it!

CO2 poisoning wouldbe the fastest "humane" way in "unhumane" euthanization of any animal... unless of course you have 90% ethanol lying around somewhere.
