I have two 150w metal halide bulbs for a tank that is 48’’ wide 30’’ tall and 18’’deep.
How deep down do you think I could put an ultra grade maxima clam.

I would say lower third of the tank would work..jmo..:)
What kinda light was it under originally? If under similar lights then I would say that it would do well anywhere but the bottom (as I think the par drops off pretty significantly after 16"...please correct me if I am wrong). If you a different light was previously used, put on bottom (but on a frag plug or rock) for a few days and slowly move it up. Maximas love light and do well with high light medium flow.

At 30" deep, halfway up the tank would be the lowest i would place it. ( In reality probably within the top 12") Maxima clams are the 2nd most light demanding clams ( Some argue that they need even more light than crocea clams)
