I did do some slight modification... I reversed the center channel and removed the 2 moon led's... replaced that with 2 profilux simu led sticks.....
the shimmer led is still in the center....
so now the fixture has full capability with profilux led sticks fully integrated in the fixture and an absolutely perfect fit....... and i still have all 8 bulbs and the shimmer led ..... and all the tubes are dimmable on the profilux....
Seant was kind enough to explain how to do this....
Photos to follow shortly....

I cant wait to get my tank going and this on top of it...but it should be awesome... beautiful fixture and awesome profilux simu sticks... what more can you ask for???? hmmmmm

Thanks for the shout out Larry.
I was wary when I did this a month or so ago but I must say it worked out nicely. :)

That would be an excellent idea, 2 simul-L's per 48" fixture would be perfect.

I am planning on downsizing my current setup and was looking into going T5's, seeing a modded fixture with the simu sticks in it is REALLY swaying me towards it.... :D
Does anyone know if they have the dimmable setups in the 39w/36" 110v yet ??? I havent looked into them in awhile and thought it was only the 54w ones that were dimmable....

hey everyone....finally set the tank up and the starfire is powered up....
I must say the t5 dimming on the profilux is awesome... just absolutely great...
you can mix the 2 channels to make the light any color range you want...
also the cloud function on the profilux with the starfire is awesome.......

Hi badazztealcobra
Leave it with me I will see what I can do, however if you have access to a 220V line then i can get this for you in about 4 weeks, other than that I will work with Claude to make this available, there are a couple of options for this.
Best to communicate with me via email at

Has anyone got an idiots guide to setting this up with a Profilux?
Just received mine today. Two plugs, 4 bare wires and no instructions....
Any help from anyone who has one set up would be really appreciated.
Thanks,
Chris

I'm in the UK. Came direct from Fauna Marin.
Two Euro power plugs and another box with 4 wires :eek1:

Just to help you out a bit more, the 4 wires are the 2 pairs of 1-10V inputs to the ProfiLux but they should of come wired to one western plug to go directly into the L port of your profilux.
In this case fauna will have to send you the adapter and wiring pattern.

How's the shimmer with two simu led sticks and center LED?
That's one thing I miss with MH now that I'm all T5's.
This new unit looks great.

You get a good enough shimmer but the LED spots that come with the star fire give a better shimmer, the Simu's give beter dawn and night time effects.
These fixtures are great, 100% german built and designed including the components, no dodgy wiring or Chinese imported ballasts.
If you want a unit to last a very long time then I believe invest in the quality.

I have been "dead set" on an ATI PowerModule. If you are a fan of T5 lighting then you just can't deny the fact that it is very powerful and has quite a reputation. However, I haven't really given the Fauna Marin Star Fire a good look until now. I'm very intrigued. I have some questions.
1. Does the Star Fire use the same or similar "silver-coated" individual reflectors as the ATI PowerModule?
2. Since these are custom made, is a 48" 12 bulb unit possible?

Hi
The reflectors are the next genertion from what ATi used and also made in Germany like the whole unit, you will be hard pushed to find better, In regards to coating, yes they are coated but Fauna will not devulge for risk of copying. I will see if I can get Fauna to comment directly on this for you
12 tube is possible.

hi Stealle
We use a slightly different form of reflectors with 98% reflection rate.
better is not possible.
The quality of the ballasts and other materials is much higher that from this unit which you talked
Like we showed on the aquascience tubes ( Solaris and Starfire lamps ) we can make a better quality in all
parts of our product range.
We only work with german parts and ballasts , use a massive powdercoated aluminium body and single reflector
We had a passiv and active cooling with controlable possibilitys
Regards claude

Wow, you guys have some great products.
What kind of LEDs are you using in the Star Fire? 1W or 3W? I'm hoping for 3W. Also, do you have blue and white LEDs? If so, what is the kelvin of the white bulbs? What is the wavelength of the blue bulbs?

Hi stealle
The LED in the actual lamp are only for moonlight ( blue ) or flickering effect with a 3 Watt 10.000 K LED.
The next step is a complete LED lamp with special LEDīs from Cree
but this will take some month maybe till Interzoo it will be ready

Does the 3W 10,000K LED actually "flicker" (As in rapidly turning on and off. Or, rapidly alternating between bright and dim) or does it stay constantly full "on" and cause "shimmer" as seen with all 3W LED bulbs?
AQD_ottawa
10/18/2009, 03:57 PM
Hi
They stay on to create the shimmer, if they were to flicker you would get an articial effect not pleasing to the eye.

Is that single LED really enough to create a shimmer with 8x54w T5s?
AQD_ottawa
10/21/2009, 10:57 AM
There is more than one LED ;)

There is more than one LED ;)
I could be wrong, but there is only one 3W LED intended to create shimmer when the T5 bulbs are lit. There are also 3-4 other "moonlight" (blue) lower wattage LEDs that will create shimmer when the T5s are out during the night.
If this is not correct, how many 3W LEDs are there?
SeanT
10/21/2009, 04:47 PM
There is only one LED per unit.
The shimmer lines are only in the region directly under the LED...all the way to where it impacts on your rockwork, substrate etc.
The shimmer is "notieceable" but if you are expecting to have anything near the halides shimmer, that is not the case.
I like the units. They are quality made but not cheap.
I wish there was active cooling on both ends instead of just the one.
hth,
Sean

Sean is correct, the standard is one but these are custom units so you can elect for more if you wish.

What is the purpose of the lil holes in the reflectors? To ventilate air?
Also where are the fans located at? On the sides or on top?
AQD_ottawa
10/31/2009, 07:08 AM
Yep to vent heat away from the tubes.
The fans are located inside the end plate

Hi Sean
To cool the lamp to much brings you an negative result.
There is a special temperature which brings the best results
in Power and lifespan.
The Unit have an active and passiv cooling so normaly it is enough
