Just wanted to share a few pics of my new addition and also thank everyone here for thier help with my sometimes dumb questions:cool:
I havent been able to help others out as much as others have helped me but I assume that will come with time.
Anyhow my tank just hit a year old this month and I am happy because it has been healthy, and steadily healthy for probably 6 months now. I have an abundence of pods running around, no algae of any type (knock on wood), everything looks healthy and my Zoos and Palys are growing like mad. I dont dose anything, I have a simple 55 gallon system with a HOB skimmer, 1 K-3 powerhead, a 350 GPH HOB carbon filter, and 1 heater.
When I first set it up I checked my params faithfully every few days. I've gotten to the point where I check them every few weeks and they hardly ever fluctuate. The only thing I may add is purple up to keep the Calcium around 440-460, but that is only about once every 2 weeks.
All in all its been a success, Ive had a few casulaties (like when I bought a green serpent star and he ate both of my cleaner shrimp..., you know, learning curves):rollface:
To celebrate I bought a BTA. It will be my first. I brought him/her home yesterday, put it in the little overhang where the clowns hang out and he opened right up. The clowns are a little misplaced by the new "furniture" in thier lair ;) , but they've accepted it and dont nip at it, they just go around it instead. I figure they will eventually host the BTA and as long as they are not picking on it, they can take as long as they want. It has some growing to do anyhow, the clowns are a little big for it it seems.
Speaking of growing, I fed him a half a piece of thawed scallop this morning and he gulped it right down. He seems to be happy where it is so far, it gets a nice flow of current and he has only moved about an inch so far from where I intially placed it. From what I've read, a stationary BTA is a happy one, it likes where it is.
I am babbling now so here are a few pics of the new guy/gal. My camera skills suck so thats as good as I can get. I will se if my wife will snap a few shot for me sometime, she has a Rebel XTI.
Enjoy;
