Hello all, I was just wondering what you think of the pinwheel vs the meshweel versions of the sicce pumps for the MSX skimmers. Which is better? More efficient? I will be setting up a reef tank and will be using an MSX-250.

Also, is the $100 'extended' collection cup worth the price? I have the cup that comes with the skimmer but am thinking of upgrading it if it works better.

GSMguy, thank you for the input. Can I ask why you say this? I thought I had heard that the mesh is better, but I'll tell you what...for the life of me I can't get em meshed right and they are just a pain in the rear end. They NEVER start right up and then half the time would just shut off because I can't get em meshed good enough.

Pinwheel sounds nice...but will the mesh (if done right) outperform the pinwheel?

You summed it up yourself. The MW perform well, but the PW are less hassle. I would stick with the SWC/MSX PWs. People are having troubles with the PPWs.

Ok, I'll bite. What's a PPW? Are you referring to the post above yours talking about purple pinwheels? What are the pros and cons of these purple ones?

The PPW performs a bit better, but some people are having startup problems with them and they are also breaking. The PWs that come with the MSX work well. I wouldn't spend the $100 on the extended neck either.

mesh "should" out perform pinwheel but i have the sicce pump on my octo xtreme 200 and just dont think its worth the hassle. As you have stated its a pain in the butt to get working right and you have to check on it alot more often.

I stuck with the pinwheel and havent had any performance issues and its very easy and hassle free.
