Hello everyone, I have a 37g column reef for 4 yrs now. Do you consider this a nano tank? my ultimate question is what makes a nano tank a nano. Is it considered a nano if it has a sump? You can view my tank and entire set up on www.youtube.com/scubaguyron

You'll get arguments that anything below 40g is considered a nano to only 20g and below is considered a nano and everything in between...
"The original intent of the nano tank forum was to provide a place for those who keep smaller tanks. These smaller tanks have requirements and restrictions imposed on the owners not common to Aquarists with larger tanks. What was a small group of people with small tanks has grown exponentially into a larger group with even larger tanks.
After receiving feedback from members and after thorough discussion among the staff we've decided to limit posting in the Nano forum to tanks with a main tank of 34 gallons and under. No distinction will be made for conventional tanks or All In One tanks (AIO), or for sump sizes no matter what they may be.
This is not an attempt by RC Staff to set standards in the hobby or redefine a nano tank. It is an attempt to serve our members best and still maintain the relevance of this forum."

I think you are in the bermuda triangle of tanks, not too big to be considered a large tank and not to small to be a nano, a new breed of tank!! haha Personally I always thought that anything under 55g was considered a nano because 55 is the recommended beginner tank in most opinions and anything under that was harder to maintain? or at least that is what I thought anyhow.

34gall (130 liters) seems to be generally the maximum size for a nano on most forums these days, almost certainly due to the Red Sea Max being this size, as there's no other logical explanation for picking sch an odd size as the arbitrary maximum. The Max is so popular it would have left many people in the "forum wilderness" had it not been fitted to one category. I seem to remember that before the Max many people considered 20-25gall (approx 100 liters) as the nano size.
