Need help with my skimmer (urgent)

i just bought a brand new reef octopus BH-800s. i'm having trouble with the compartment where water flows in. after a certain amount of time, the water level is too low and no water is being syphon into that compartment. the skimming compartment still has water and bubbles but not enough to make water flow out into tank. any help would be greatly appreciated.

Is it in a sump?

Sounds like the sump you have may not hold enough volume for the skimmer???

That or your losing water somewhere.

it's not in the sump. the skimmer is hanging on back of my tank.
