I have two MP40W's and I'm thinking of getting the battery backup but have some questions first.
1- Does the battery backup come with the necessary cords to attach both pumps or will I need to buy a second cord? I also didn't find any instructions on the web site for installation of the battery backup.
2- Currently when I do a water change I just turn off the power strip that the pumps are plugged into to shut them down while I lower the water for a change. Will the batteries present a problem that needs to be addressed in order to be able to turn the pumps off?
3- On a side note I've discovered that when I power off the pumps and later turn them back on they remember the mode they were programmed for and go back into the cycle without any adjustments but the night mode is lost and requires me to wait until the particular time of night that I want them to enter night mode and then re-program them again. Is there anything that can be done to overcome this or any firmware changes that will address this?

1) The BB only comes with a cable for one pump.
2) Yes, it will prevent the pumps from turning off. You will have to unplug the battery cable going into the pump as well.
3) What you've experienced is normal operation and there is no way to overcome this at this time.

Will the BB run two pumps if I get a second cord?

Yes it will. but will half the backup battery run time. That is the setup that I'm running.

Ya, I would use the battery on only one pump. In case of an emergency where you power goes out for an extended time, its better to have one pump going for longer, than 2 for half the time.

Where did you get a second cord from? Thanks.

From Ice Cap, it was $15 + shipping.

Is it necessary to have the battery backup plugged in?

You mean to an AC wall receptacle?
If so, then Yes.

Why, I thought when the power goes out, the battery will kick in. Does plugging the ac in help charge the battery?

Plugging it in allows the built in trickle charger to re-charge the battery and keep it charged up.
