I have an ac jr and getting ready to upgrade it to the ac3 or pro. I'm looking at the two tunze 6105's but trying to decide why it's worth more money to buy the aquasurf vs the tunze 7096? The tunze is cheaper so other than consolidating to one device what more appealing? Anyone tell me why?

You can search the forum as this has been discussed and compared at some length but the short answer is that the level of configuration afforded you by the Neptune controllers far exceeds what you can do the the Tunze controller. For example you can have pump profiles for day, night, morning, feeding timer, etc; only limited by your imagination and the number of profiles supported by a particular controller:

ACJr = 4 profiles
AC3 = 6 profiles
AC3 Pro = 8 Profiles
Apex = 16 profiles

(A profile is a collective of settings; high/low intervals time (.1 to 240 seconds) and percentages (0, 30-100%).
