Thanks for that link, please post your testing. I will probably need to wait for the bigger one with the 10" base and bubble master 5000 pump, for my 180-gallon tank. This is definitely another one to throw into the mix. I have to choose between the Octopus, ATB, SWC, ITECH or ALPHA within the next few months.

Thanks, I'll look into it and see how cheap they are. If it is just a little blemish and doesn't hurt performance that is fine with me.

id like to see how these perform. i could buy my own vacuum mold machine for the price of some of these cone skimmers. ridiculous.

no you cant....

is $399 really that expensive 2 years ago 399 would have gotten you a crappy skimmer.

I just sent Coralvue an email to ask if they have a "bigger" Cone skimmer coming out with a 10" base and their Bubble Blaster 5000 pump. I think that would be more suited for a heavy stocked 180-gallon or larger. But then again with 50sch maybe the cone skimmer that they already have coming out this summer with the 8" base and the Bubble Blaster 2000 will be enough. 50sch seems pretty good for one pump.
So many skimmers to choose from: I now have it narrowed down to the Cone: Octopus, ATB, SWC, K2, ITECH, Alpha.... which is not very narrowed at all.

i worded that wrong. $400 is getting into my price range. if these get good reviews i will grab one to upgrade my rs100.

The motor looks like a laguna to me. If it is, then the skimmer is going to work very well.

It's not a laguna it is a laguna copy made in china called bubble blaster.

ryshark, just curious if you pinned one down yet? I'm seriously considering the Super Reef Octopus XP-2000 Cone Skimmer or the i-tech 200. I have a 180 as well. Seems like the Super Reef Octopus XP-2000 Cone Skimmer is slightly cheaper.

If you guys are trying to compare the K2 to an askoll/laguna based skimmer your nuts. There is no comparison as a sicce will not performs the same as an askoll. The askoll is 2.5x's the pump as a sicce.

1) the skimmer in question does NOT have an Askoll based pump. It uses a Chinese made copy.

2) the K-2 Sicce draws up to 1100lph (1200LPH with the new PW) of air at 21W, a higher air/watt ratio than the competing Askoll/Laguna or the Chinese copy.

3) The K-2 pump is warrantied for 2 years and if you break a part the replacement parts are easily available and cheap, unlike Askoll/Laguna pumps.

Just curious because many mentioned that Bubble Blaster is Chinese/Reef Octopus copy of Askoll pump. What is the definition of copy?
Bubble Blaster have different body (is bigger) , use diferent more quality material (silicon nitrid ), have diferent perfomance ( more air ) , different motor, is cooler then askoll... so how that pump can be copy? I asume copy is something equal to original but less quality. BB is not identical and have better quality.
Here is the comparison picture betwen BB and Askoll pump

I've yet to see a quality pump come out of China. They have had some serious quality, longevity problems. The OTP, fair at best, the Resuns have been less than stellar. The R.E. RDII Chinese pumps are even being recalled because of poor quality. Lets see if these are any better.

As far as the availability and cost of Askoll/Laguna parts, that would depend on whose pump you are using. I'm quite happy with the performance of the SWC Askoll.

OTP is Hailea pumps, same factory who made ocean runner pump for Aqua Medic, they look almost the same, have a similar problems from my expirience, I use resun pump quite long, some of them actually last longer with less problem then some 4-5 time more expensive EU models.

Bubble/Water blaster are something completly different and will be prove with time, that is not a cheap product, not even close to mentioned pumps.

Here is the testing picture, they work for months in this testing pool (still work), highly saturated sea water with kalkwaser and calcium, no calcium deposit whatsoever on shaft or bearing.

That pumps are made and designed specialy for use on skimmer and similar products (kalkwaser, calcium reactors, return pump..) in sea water. And for what I know Reef Octopus are only company who made pumps for their products, other modified askoll, sicce, eheim, aquabee... pumps what are not designed for that task.
