Folks,

Thought I would post this here as it's a specific question around SPS. My apologies if it should go over to the lighting forum.

I have a 48x24x24 SPS tank, and I'm in the process of purchasing an 8 bulb 48" Powermodule. Can anyone suggest a good bulb combination that will really bring the colors out but allow for growth? I also have a clam on the sand bed.

Many thanks,
L3

Hi,
Seems that everyone pounds thier tank with a lot of blue bulbs.
Doesnt it look to blue? I have the same light and only run two blue + and its a bright crisp light with a tint of blue.

Frank, I thought the sane thing till I experimented with this bulb combo:

Front
ATI-Blue+
ATI-Blue+
Geisemann 6000k
ATI-Blue+
Geisemann 6000k
ATI-Blue+

Not at all Blue, bup nice POP........The 6000k's are very strong at washing out the blue bulbs!!!!! They also give a good warm look to the Blue hue......

After playing around with bulbs for a bit I found this to be the perfect combo for me:

FRONT
ATI Blue+
ATI Aquablue Special
ATI Aquablue Special
ATI Blue+
ATI Blue+
ATI Aquablue Special
ATI Blue+

It is a crisp clean color with no heavy blue. It is the perfect color. :D

What combination will look the closes to the Phoenix or Radium Bulbs? I am also looking to switch to the Powermodule but I love the look of these two bulbs.

Sorry layer3switchguy but I have the same tank so I thought I'd tag along hope you don't mind.

No worries! The more the better!

SunnyX - Thanks for the PM reply. One last question, how would you line the bulbs up front-to-back?

Cheers,
L3

Once you have it over the tank you may have to swap one or two bulbs around in order to correspond to the coral colors below it. Blue+ over blue corals, Aquablue Special over reds, pinks, and yellows.

I agree with sunny

So you have to arrange the corals to match the bulbs? The bulbs don't blend together? And compared to MH what temp will this combination closely match 14k, 15k, 20k?

I would say between 15- 20k

I run the same combo as Sunny. I love it.

+1 for the 6500K-10000K washing things out!
