Filtration - help

Okay,

30gal tank with live sand and live rock, not sure exact weight but approximately 25-30lbs. I also run a canister filter and just added a reef octopus bh-100f, do I need the canister filter??? I have frequent algae problems and have to scrub down the rock/tank every couple of months?

i run one with just carbon and floss it wont hurt

Do you use an RO/DI system?? Like with making beer, you need clean water going in. I assumed you make beer cuz of your profile. You reef ultimately needs DI water, but RO would suffice.

I like your skimmer!! I used it on a 58g once. I second the carbon in the canister filter. There are other materials you can run inside the canister too. But carbon is the best for now.
