Hi guys, I'm ordering a JBJ 12 nanocube delux and I'm wondering what other equipment I will need.

I think the lights will be fine because I will be keeping zoas, softies, and probably some LPS but not SPS.

The stock pump is only 106 GPH so I'm thinking I should buy a koralia nano?

Also my biggest concern is the protein skimmer. What type of protein skimmer will fit in the JBJ 12? I've heard that the saphire will fit and is a great skimmer as well.

Thanks

id go with a tunze nano stream rather than the kornalia. I don’t know about the skimmer you could try running no skimmer for soft corals skimmers bo harm as well as good normally a lot more good but in a tank this size im not shore they are needed with regular water changes. other than that possibly more light?

Koralia's are nice but you'll need more than a nano. I have a Koralia nano in my JBJ NC6 and it's not quite enough.

I put a Koralia 1 in my 12 gallon delux. I have the stock pump. There is definitly a shortage of flow without the Koralia. I had some issues with cyano and it was gone after a week with the improved flow.

Don't worry about a skimmer. Do weekly/ biweekly water changes and you will be fine.

any suggestions for replacement for the stock pump?

***Oh and is it true that the daylight and actnitic on the JBJ 12 delux are connected and you can't turn them off/on seperately? If yes, how could I fix this problem.

I changed the return pump to a MJ900, also modded the return into a spraybar. You shouldn't need a skimmer, just rely on biological filtration from your LR and weekly water changes.

And yes, the 10,000 and actinic are connected and as far as I know, there is nothing you can do short of removing the hood and adding new lights.

You can get a DIY kit to change how the lights work from nanotuners. The bulbs come as 2 day/actinic bulbs, but if you mod your hood, you can get the same, or do 1 actinic dual and 1 daylight dual bulb. You also can not run the lights on cycle on a timer stock.. so you would have to manually switch the mains off unless you mod the night lights too. ($25 @ nanotuners)

I just bought a used Nanocube 12 for $30 that's in great shape, and am learning about this thing as I go... I need new fans, but other than that, it's ready to start cycling. :D

you can also get a fix from nanotuners for the moonlights, to run them off their own power.
the sapphire skimmers are great (have one in my 24g), but if you're not keeping SPS you don't really need it.
