im not usually one to buy first ask questions later but occassionaly you spot a good deal and i know i can pass it along to another reefer should i be unable to care for it. generally, we have very similar things in our tank anyway.

this was sold to me as a dented brain but i have my doubts. any other opinions?

and while we are at it, this was sold to me as "some sort of brain thing" for dirt cheap and i figured id pounce on it. i cant tell if its a favia or perhaps an acan?

To me the top one looks like an unhappy / partially receded Acanthastrea lordhowensis and the bottom one an Acanthastrea echinata.

The top one is Symphyllia- maybe Lobophyllia. I agree that the second one is similar to A. echinata.

symphyllia and a. echinata appear to be the consensus on other forums as well.

The bottom one looks like a Favite brain to me. I have one very similar that was also sold to me (by a very trusted LFS in my area) as a brain and I had the same question. One thing I came across was that the favites have very small mouth areas while acans tend to have larger mouth areas. But honestly I am not knowledgeable on these at all.
