There are three black sponges that came with my JBJ nano, should I be using them? They're they only source on non-bio filtration, my only fear would be the sheer amount of pollutants that would get released if I ever tried to chance/clean them. Or is it not worth worrying about?
Thanks

Sure, just clean them once a week.

it is hard to get the sponges out, and you end up making a mess when you pull them out. it may help to cut them so they come out without any hassle. they do pull in a lot of nasty stuff...... so yes, use them

so the consensus is to use them but wash them very often, once a week?

I have the same problem with the sponge in my Solana and I wash it about every week. I have come to the conclusion to buy a sheet of the sponge and every 3 months or so replace the sponge with a freshly cut one.
