I've done it with no apparent ill effects, but now I just let it mix overnight, it's easier for me when it's split between two days.

I used to go 2-3 hours. But in the last year have gone to 24+ hours unless an emergency arises.

hah i guess im bad to, as soon as all my salt is dissolved and my salt reads a constant 1.025 and temperature is 78 it flushes into the tank.

I use mine right away as long as the salt has disolved, it is clear and up to temps.

I think the only detriment to adding freshly mixed water is the Ph level. It'll stabilize around the manufacturer's specs after that time. Honestly though, I can't imagine 5 gal. in a, say, 60 gal. system will have that much of an impact on the Ph levels.

I agree. We mix up 100 gallons at a time and do 60g in my roommates 450g system, and 40g in my 250g system as soon as it's totally disolved, clear and close to the right temp. In systems our size a couple degrees centigrade changes our temp maybe one degree at most. Never seen an issue and we've been doing it like this since the beginning. We only wait 24 hours if the water takes that long to warm up.

I've tested the pH and never seen it too low or high to use immediately though. Even if it was, you're right, doing a 10-20% water change shouldn't change your pH enough to make an impact.

try to wait 24 hours
but have done it after 2 or 3 hours 100plus times

I Yeah, I do not see why you should even wait 24 hours, as long as the salt is clearly dissolved...

I usually just mix it over the night so it usually ends up being between 10 and twelve hours.

I use the water after mixed for at least 4 hours.

I've done the mix and pour in the past, and not had anything bad happen. I like to do mine a day or so in advance now and add some of my supps that I am dosing to it before using it to do the wc.

I use it just about as soon as it dissolved.

If I'm not mistaken, I think that one of the main reasons we wait at least 24 hours, is because if you make RO-DI water, it is depleted of oxygen. When you put a pump in the mixture, it oxygenates the water as well making sure you don't dump any undissolved salt on a sensitive coral.

Agreed, the biggest reason to wait is to ensure good aeration of the water before it goes into the system.

I overkill and have a 35g can that stays in the garage that I keep pre mixed. I use it when I do water changes and immediately fill it back up and add salt. I do water changes every 10 days so the water is sitting in the can with a maxijet running 24 7 for over a week. I've done the mix and dump before, but find its easier for me to just set it up ahead of time and have it ready to go when I need it. (also very convenient in case of an emergency).

I do however do small WC's, about 15% each time.

Me too...for several years. No problem.
