I have a pair of clowns that I think may be in the process of reproduceing. Over the last couple of days my female has made a deep bed in the sand and the pair have been acting very strange towards each other. My questions is my male is less than an inch long and I didn't think he was big enough to be making babies yet. How old or large does a clown have to be to mate?

My pair the female is about twice the size of the male and continues to grow while the male stays about the same. MAle 1-11/2 inches, female easily 2-3inches

Its not the size diff. that concerns me its just the size of the male in general I wasnt sure if he was big enough to mate yet?

I don't know if there is a size limit but a fish that is less than 1" long seems to be a little young to spawn but then again, clowns grow very fast, so he may be ready soon.

Depending on the species, the male can be considerably smaller than the female and be reproductively mature.
