i work till 10:00 most nights and when in get home my fish are asleep in the rocks. i would like to enjoy a little of the daylight cycle when i get home. so i would have to start the day cycle later, after the real sun has risen and the room fills with light. My tank is not in front of a window and my blinds are always shut but is not a dungeon you can tell its day time. will the fish wake up early and start the day before the lights come on or is there not enough light for them to notice

Some fish may, some fish may not notice the light, but yes you can adjust the day cycle. I used to do it when I worked late. The tank won't mind

my lights don't come on till 1pm and off at 11, never seemed to bother the fish any

i'm in the same boat and I've adjusted my timings accordingly. Some of my fish come out in the morning before the lights come on but most of them stay in the rocks.

I'm upgrading my lights to MH and i'm going to be running from 4pm - 12pm. Not only will this allow me to enjoy the tank while i'm home, but also I won't have to be competing with hot, mid day weather and halide lighting.

I've always ran my tanks with a time offset for my viewing pleasure :)

no problem with running the lighting cycle to coincide with your available time to enjoy it. just try and keep the cycles consistent.

Mine is running 1pm to 11:30 and the tank doesn't seem to mind.

My MH come on a 3:30 PM. and are on until 11:30PM. My actinics are on until 12:30 AM. My fish don't seem to mind at all. When I get a new fish it takes them a few days to adjust but after a week or so they don't even notice.

My tanks run from 9pm to 9am to coincide with the off peak electricity times. The house isn't completely dark during the day, however corals and fish definitely don't seem to mind.
