Here is mine. It's colors seem quite light to me.

that looks nice. what flow and light did you place the piece in? mine does not have as good polyp extension, thinking it may not like high light high flow.

Don't have a current pic, but mine is much darker purple. Yours looks healthy, but much lighter than I have ever seen.

It's about mid way up in med flow. However, mid way up in my little 29g display with the overdriven T5's is very high light.

I'm thinking my lights might be the cause. I can bleach corals on my sandbed very easily. I'm running 5 T5's over my 29g, three of which (2 blue+ and one Blue Special) are overdriven with an IceCap 660. I'm in the process of gathering the equipment to move to a 100g display and it's only about 1 inch deeper so I'm thinking I'll be better off not overdriving my lights.

Any advice on helping my corals darken back up? Any opinions on my light theory? Almost all of my sps are lighter than when I got them/they were in their original homes. My alk is pretty steady at 10dkh, cal at 460, nitrates at 0, amonia and nitrites at 0, phos undetectable, running phosban, salinity is at 1.026. Running 5 24w T5's with three of those on an icecap 660 a couple of inches over a 17" tall tank.

I just cut back on the over driven t5's so that they are only running for 4 hours a day to see if it helps two new recent additions retain their colors.

Growth is good, everything is just really light.

If your corals are light, I would lean towards nutrients, meaning your tank may be a bit too clean, I know, convential wisdom would disagree... Maybe a drop or two of aminos a day will help, tell us about your bioload, the answer maybe right in front of you...GL

It's a 29g tank with a 20g sump. I have two smallish clowns, a Royal Gramma, a Lubbock's wrasse and don't tell anyone but I have a very small blue tang as well. I feed a mixture of different pellets, dry cyclopese (sp?), and flake every other day and some nori for the tang. I have a coral banded, and a cleaner shrimp as well.

Maybe up your feedings to your fish, that may darken them up a bit....

I think cutting the lights back is a good start.

My Plum Crazy is much darker and way awesome. I'm very proud of it and its color and am feeling an urge to go take a picture! Lights won't be on for a few hours yet.

Your lights are only on 4 hours a day and you wonder why your corals are so light colored? Mine gets 9 hours of 400w MHs and 11 hours of T5 actinics. High light and high flow baby!

No, I just cut them back to 4 hours in the last day or so. They have been running 8-9 hours a day with the actinics running 12 hours (actinics are still running 12 hours). If lighting is my problem, it's too much light. I have several examples of corals that came from under 400w halides only to bleach or lighten a lot while being on the sand in my tank. I just cut the lights back to attempt to prevent my latest two acquisitions from bleaching and to see if any of my others would color up if they aren't being blasted by as much light.

I've seen Ken's (Reef Bass) ORA Plum Crazy and have to say it is the nicest one I have seen to date. That coral is my favorite ORA coral...along with the German Blue. I lost mine in my acro demise of '09 :(. I am looking forward to adding it to my new collection once the new tank is up and running and ready for frags :D. I have compiled a very short list of favorite acros for re-stocking and the ORA Plum crazy is high on the list. A super sweet acro :).

Thanks Alicia! It's even more deeply colored now than when you saw it. I'm going to have to take a picture. Let me know when you're ready and I'll frag you some.

The straight on view is a bit blocked by the rock in front of it. Here is a pulled back shot that includes from left to right Purple Polyp Green Birdsnest (just poking in from the left edge), what I believe to be a Bonzai, Karls Candlelight Acro, a wee Undata frag, ORA Plum Crazy and a piece of my rather pink Orange Monti cap that grew from like one polyp. I like all the pretty colors. :)

Ken, Nice pictures. Your Undata has colored back up very nicely :D. The Ora Plum Crazy does indeed look totally aweosme;). I'll let you know when I am ready...porobably 3 or so months down the road.

On a side note...don't you have the ORA Pearl Berry??? That is my favorite Ora acro...not the Plum Crazy, although that is a nice second. I got the two confused in this thread.

Yes, I have ORA Pearlberry too. It's a dandy. I love its color scheme. I've got a bazillion things to do today or I'd take a picture. :) You're welcome to a chunk of it as well.

Thanks for your kind words about my Undata, but that is a different frag of it. The one to which you refer did completely color back up and was looking awesome until it rtn'd virtually overnight. I was able to frag some small pieces which are all doing well.

To weird about the Undata. Mine seems bullet proof. It gets all browned out, light, bleached, beautiful, light, brown, beautiful again. The thing is always on a roller coaster ride of colors but it just seems to grow and grow no matter what. To bad about your piece, glad to see you have another piece of it. I will take you up on that Pearlberry frag down the road ;). The new tank is in the living room...empty...but in the living room, hehehehe.

Nice shot of the Karl's Candlelight! I have been surfing for colony pictures to see what my frag will grow up to be and I can only hope it comes close to that final look.

Some great pics. I'm looking for some purples for my tank. Perhaps I will have to pick one up.
