I am wondering how good Iwasaki 175 bulbs w/ Lumen Bright Reflectors are? how do they compare with other 250w bulbs? can you keep sps with it? Please give me your opinion.

Thanks.

that bulb outperforms some of the 250w bulbs. It's white though...not like a 15K at all. I had 2 with lumenmax reflectors and burned some SPS at the bottom of a 65g

Here's my 125 with 3x175w Iwasaki in Lumenarcs.

it and much lessor 175w bulbs can easily keep SPS (and without the fancy lumenbright. mine grew like weeds under 175w AB 13k and sunlight supply batwings).

three things:

1. the Iwasaki is white (not XM 10k white but dont expect XM 15k blue either). if you like blue or radium/ushio 20k pop dont get it or supplement heavily. with a lumenbright you can grow SPS well even on a low PAR 175w bulb. Dont let PAR be your only deciding factor. I'd choose based on color 1rst, PAR 2nd personally.

2. the superiority to many 250w bulbs is mostly based on the Iwasaki matched to an electronic ballast. On magnetic the Iwasaki becomes just a very good 175w bulb. its a great choice as a substitute for a whiter 250w bulb where you fear heat may be an issue AND you plan on using an electonic ballast regardless of what wattage you choose.

3. it can in no way compare to the best 250w has to offer and if you have not already locked in what kind of ballast you are going to use. for example in its best configuration (on e ballast) it cant come near an XM10k (also on an e-ballast which it is not best matched with). if you put the XM on a magnetic M58 which it matches well with it puts out DOUBLE the PAR of the Iwasaki 175w in its best configuration and even more than that if the Iwasaki is put on a simular M57 ballast. Another example would be the Aquaconnect 14k (which has superior color). put the aquaconnect on a magnetic M58 the Iwasaki performs much better. put the Aquaconnect on a HQI ballast where it belongs an it kills the Iwasaki regardless of what ballast its on.

Not sure where you are getting your info from, but that's not what the results say from Sanjays Performance Results for 175w MH bulbs (http://www.reeflightinginfo.arvixe.com/tabular-lamp-data.php?Watts=175&LampManuf=Select+Lamp+Manufacturer&Lamptype=Select+a+Lamp+Type&LampName=Select+Lamp+Name&LampNameText=Select+Lamp+Name&BallastName=Select+Ballast+Name&BallastNameText=Select+Ballast+Name&Shielded=Select+Shielded&Submit=Search)

I got it from the same place you referenced (I did get the ushio 10k mixed up with the XM 10k, its been 2yrs since I had or referenced 175w bulbs but I looked all this up many times when I did. I had a magnetic pulse start ballast so I chose the AB 13k).

175w on M57 ballast:

ushio 10k PPFD 75
AB 13k PPFD 73
Iwasaki 15k PPFD 71
Hamilton 10k PPFD 71
XM 10k PPFD 62

when three other 175w bulbs match or better it I would say its just another very good one. you dont have the unlimited choices like you do with 250w bulbs and the new ones (aquamaxx, SE phoenix, updated XM15k) are untested so for 175w there's very good and then there's everything else.

I have grown SPS under the Iwasaki 175 watters without a problem. XM 10Ks work great as well.

A couple of years ago I used a pair of them over my 58, and had really good results, but I just didn't care for the color of them --- too white for my tastes. I upgraded my ballast to 2*250 and went 20K (( XMx and Radiums ))

cool, will 2x175w be ok for 5' long tank?

I would say yes, using Lumenarc reflectors. I personally know of 2 500g reef tanks (8') that are lit using 3 Lumenarcs.
Here's 1 of them....

I also say yes. I run a single 175 over a 50 gal tank with no problems what so ever. My tank is 36" so I think two would cover a tank not even double my size quit nicely.

thanks CCapt for showing the pic. a pic is worth 1000 words and that shows it nicely. are those 175w iwasaki bulbs capt?

I had two 175w over a 6ft tank. just aquascaped so the SPS werent in the middle (although monti digi and cap and deresa clam and everything else I put there did fine). It didn't have a center brace so there was no visual dark area in the center. I'd say with the reflectors you'll be using two will be fine.

i love my iwasaki bulbs! more par than any 250 watt with the right ballast, and my sps growth is excelant!!!!

The 1st pic is my 125 with 3 Iwasaki 175's. The 2nd pic of the 500g reef has 3x400w Giesemann bulbs.

I like my Iwasaki's too, but there are plenty of 250w bulbs with better PAR.....so I would have to disagree with that statement.
FYI....Sanjays 250w performance results (http://www.reeflightinginfo.arvixe.com/tabular-lamp-data.php?Watts=250&LampManuf=Select+Lamp+Manufacturer&Lamptype=Select+a+Lamp+Type&LampName=Select+Lamp+Name&LampNameText=Select+Lamp+Name&BallastName=Select+Ballast+Name&BallastNameText=Select+Ballast+Name&Shielded=Select+Shielded&Submit=Search)
