I plan on getting one of these at the end of the month...payday. I have 2 175w reef fanatic E-ballast and am planning on getting a third light for the middle of my 6ft tank. Would you recommend another 175w? or the 250w?

I also need to get some new bulbs...I have no supplemental lights so the color needs to be around the 14k temp. Which bulbs do you recommend? No sps, just zoos, lps, and softies...
Thanks,
BJ Hayden

I really like the 15k 175w Iwasaki lamp. That lamp gives similar par output to a lot of 250w 10k - 14k lamps. Some are ok with running it without actinic supplementation, while others that like a more blue appearance would want to run some actinic with it.

Having said that, with the corals you are keeping in there you do not need anything that is really intense. You could even try the 14k Hamilton 175w lamp if you want something that is more blue, or even the 12k 175w Reeflux. I think 250w would be overkill, and not needed.

Just great. I just redid my lighting and used 3 DIY HQI ballasts for my new Radium 400s. These are only $30 more each and I may have gone this route. Now, if you are gonna have a sale on chillers soon...drop me a line :)

I just bought one of the 250 watt ballast and they really mess with my X-10 controller. I am not sure how high quality the electronics are on this unit.

This does not have anything to do with the ballast, but rather the X10 technology itself. You need to get an inline amplifier for this, and it should take care of any interference you have.

I know there are some old school aquacontroller guys out there still using the x10 equipment with the amplifier and they have no issues at all. If you need me to I can do some searching around for the product.

Thanks,
Jeremy

Thanks Jeremy, I only say this because my Icecap Electronic ballasts didn't cause any issues.

Do they come with the quick disconnect?

They sure do, both the male and female end, so you can wire to any socket or fixture that you choose to use.

You should be just fine. We are running a 150DE here with a 175w Vertex with no problems. If for some reason it would not run it we can always exchange it out for you.

Thanks,
Jeremy
