ALKALINITY way high

I have set up a Calcium reactor and and have been checking my dKh of both the effluent and tank and it's of the chart way high. I have been running the reactor a couple of weeks now. I use a salifert test kit my Ca is running about 420, pH 8.13. Everything looks fine, but I can't figure out why its so high and what if anything I need to do lower it.

Hi,

Your Ca is okay and pH too. What´s your Alk?

Remember that the Cacium Reactor provides more Alk then Calcium. And the Alk in the effluent tend to be very high because of it.

Since your calcium level is ok, I would get a second opinion on your alk test kit before you make any changes. Alk kits will go bad after one year from the date of manufacture. This is a common problem.

My alk is over 30 on my kit, which is over a year old. I will give a new kit a try before I do anything thanks.
