Hello RC, purchased live rock to set up my new salt tank this weekend from 3 year old tank that was taken down. Have 150 lbs in a large rubbermade container with 2 mags 7's running for circulation.

Have a 4' regular flourescent single bulb over rock that I have left on 24/7. Plan on setting up Thursday. Here is my question - noticed green stringy moss growing on several of the pieces, It is flowing in about 1/2" strings/clumps. Is this OK/normal, can it hurt, is it good?

Thanks in advance.

sounds like green hair algae. Caused by phospates being too high.

Seahare was my resolution.

No, it is not good and you want to get rid of it before you put the LR in your DT.

Sounds like a hair algea bloom. Excess nutrients and 24/7 lighting is growing the algea. Keep the rock in the dark for a few weeks and start weekly water changes to reduce the phosphates and nitrates (search cooking liverock). It will be much harder to control the algea and nutrients once in the display tank.

Thanks to all.

Actually spent the last hour+, with new toothbrush and bucket of ROC water cleaning the rock.

Have turned off lights and hope to get set up soon.
