Well I have a sunset, ora blue (2), watermelon, and green milli. The green and watermelon milli both have long polyps out. But my two blue ones and the sunset never show ant long pe. I just went from an xm 20k 250 watt to a reeflux 12k 250 watt yesterday, and while I was away for a week, the calcium went to 350, alk to 14, and mag to 1150. I have fixed things up to calcium 430, alk 13, and mag 1200. I know the alk is still high (thanks to instant ocean) so I am still fixing that. But the millis have almost always been this way. Does anyone know why?

Check for AEFW's. They love millies.

eggiel, like a ton of flow, and at the top of the tank light?

Marklu, how small or big are the aefw? Ive never seen them (thankfully) so I don't know what to look for.

Give it more flow. Place it in different places of your tank to see where its polyps come out more.. Mine didn't have much till I blasted at it with a K2

Thanks maxi. Should I find a high light and high flow for all of them? What about any foods. Any you can recommend?

Check for little bite marks at the base of the coral, that's the easiest way to spot them. You can also check out Melev's website for some good info on them. Hopefully you don't have them.

Extremely hard to see on millis. You should get Coral revive and give them a dip.
As for a food, Oyster Eggs improved PE for my acros.

YA, eggiel, both of those millis are sweet. Wish I could get a frag.

JAckson: The ones with almost ne pe are only the blue and sunset. The watermelon and green are super hairy. But I just moved the blue into higher flow and I can start to see a little more pe on them.

trueblackperc: i went away to north carolina for a week for a baseball tournament and had to leave the tank with my parents for a week. And of course they have no idea what they are doing lol.

eggiel: both of those are nice, the second one looks kind of like a sunset milli? maybe? but they are both very nice.

btw, how are you liking your mp40's? Since i am still in highschool, I have to earn every penny that goes into the tank. right now I have a k3 and tunze 6025. I just want to make sure the vortechs stand up to the hype before I shell out that much money.

Hahaha, that sounds like the sunset milli. But none the less very beautiful. Mine is light orangeish, but you have t-5's. But you never know, i could be something completely new.

But about the vortech's, how many do you have running on your 75? and what places on the tank. I just upgraded to a 90, so do you think i should run them at like 75%?

I only have 1 MP40 and it place in the same direction of my return and oposite of my overflow and its like 4-5 inches uder of the water level

I think youll be ok with one for a while at maybe 60 - 75 % the idea is to make a small wave on the top and you will have a lot of movement in the bottom youll see everything lifting up from the bottom

maybe in the future you coould get a tunze and place it oposite and to give you some flow thru the back of the rocks

wow, ok thanks a lot. But one more thing, I have bahamas oolite sand, which is very powdery. Will the vortech blow the sand to kingdom come?

eggiel
08/17/2009, 04:56 AM
It will depend the speed you give it. I think any power head will blow sand it just depends where you direct it and the power of the power head

Ok. Thanks a lot eggiel, you have helped me figure everything out, and guess what? The millis are all hairy now! :) Thanks for all the great advice.

Happy reefkeeping.
