Hey everyone,
I have a question about my Squamosa Clam.
He seems pretty healthy but I've started to notice some weird snail like things burrowing into it's shell... I've attached a pic.
Is this cause for alarm at all? or is it normal.
This is the first clam I've owned and he's about 6months old.

They, vermetid snails, are fine and will not harm the clam.

I have vermitids - they are a pita and if you ask me i would remove them. As it grows longer that pointy thing may push up into the mantel crimping it's space. My maxima doesn't seem to mind the freaky things growing on it's shell. A suggestion made to me about vermitids was to put a tiny amt of glue on the tube - effectively killing the worm.

Cool! Thanks for the advice!
I just wasn't sure... Can they become a pest over time as they multiply??

Their web can coat over corals and keep them from looking their best. Larger one can reach about 1/4 inches in diameter and can make my SPS looks unsightly. I just inject some kalk into them to kill them when ever I think they are troublesome.

That is an even better idea. Time to go slurry up some kalk...
