Can bleached spots be reversed?

I bought a show size Crocea clam from Aquatic Technology a while back ago. When I recieved the clam I noticed that there were some bleached spots on the mantle. I never saw this in the pictures Aquatic Technology emailed me, because in the picture the clam was opened about 75-80 percent, mantle not fully extended. Aquatic Technology does not use any MH lighting in their clam facility. They house their clams in a green house using natural sunlight. I emailed them a picture, but they did not respond back to me. With that being said my Crocea is doing real good though. It reacts very well, and it is thriving under my 250watt 14k halide with 2 T5 actinics. I just hope that the zooxanthella returns on some of those bleached spots. Thanks..

Those are normal coloration of the mantel, not bleach spots. It will always be there

The white area in the middle of the mantel is normal, not bleached. Why clams have these area is unclear to me, nevertheless, it is normal.

See the pictures of the Crocea in this thread. They have the same white spots and they are normal

bleaching of that proton of mantle is usually caused by a quick increase in lighting. because that portion of mantle is flat the light hits straight on and less is reflected. yours look much more defined spots as well, post the video and try to get some better straight down pics ( hold the light fixture to the side for less glare )

Ok heres a video I took. Now keep in mind that the bleached spots were already there when I recieved my clam from the merchant.. So it wasn't from my halides..

bleached spots will regain their color. I am not sure that your clam is bleached there, but it it is, it will recover.

Thanks man, thats making feel alot better now. I wasn't sure if the zooxanthella would ever come back..

under good conditions the zoox. will multiply and excess can / will be consumed by the clam and released in their waste.
