Ok, basically I spend a lot of money on food for my fish, corals and clams. Not just the food but the vitamin and other supplements aren't cheap either. I'd like to know what people are doing to make their own food to save money. Whether this means using fish from the store or culturing phytoplankton, I'd like to know what works and what isn't worth just buying the product.

So food I am buying now that I think would be hardest to replace more cheaply would be the mysis shrimp. I've heard they can be hard to raise. Brine are easier but should be fed and gut loaded with a supplement. Lots of my fish need algae but I've never tried garden greens. I would also need to culture phyto but am unsure how hard this is. My numerous lps need something like cyclop-eeze. There are other dried powders I use that I wonder if I could make them much cheaper than I'm buying them.

Any help or idea or experience is greatly appreciated.

Asian Market is a goldmine for fish food. Cheap and many variety available. You can buy bulk amount of nori for the price of those tiny package they have at the big pet chain store. Many kind of frozen shrimp, prawn, seafood all in assorted size. There are many DIY recipe out there to blend a seafood concoction for corals and fish so that is something to be aware of.
