I will be setting up a 210 gl this fall and was wondering what would be better for a community tank. A couple of powerful powerheads or 4 to 5 mid range placed throughout the tank on a wavemaker. I will be housing just some zoo"s and polyps along with my fish and LR.

I think two would be better based on looks... instead of trying to hide 5 in the tank. The less equipment showing the better a tank looks, IMO.

Get a couple (or more) Vortech MP40s. I have one at each end of my 60" x 30" and I can't run them more than 75% due to the undertow they create. Great power head and inconspicuous.
For total inconspicuousness go with a closed loop.

those vortechs aren't cheap. But they are nice. would I need a wavemaker or just have both on at the same time?

The beauty of the VorTech MP40W is that if you have multiple pumps, they communicate wirelessly with each other to enable all kinds of different flow patterns, including waves if you wish. No other controller required, has all the software etc right out of the box. A single one can create a wave in a smaller tank, but you will need at least two.
