So my skimmer isnt really pulling much gunk out and into the collection cup...mostly caking the inner tube.
I was wondering if this is due to the fact that my skimmer is at an angle or if is could just be poor calibrating?

What kind of skimmer? I'm sure the fact that it isn't flat is not a good thing.

Was it working at all before? I haven't heard great things about that skimmer but it should be adequate.

i bought it off someone who said it worked...and it does work for the most part just not much going into the collection cup
could me not consistently cleaning it be an issue as well?

Skimmers do seem to like a little bit of a slime buildup before they really start to run well. I'd level it and try to get it adjusted. If it's really caked up wipe the insides down with a clean, damp sponge or rag. If you do use soap and water make certain that you rinse it thoroughly.

Sounds like you need to turn it up a bit. If its collecting in the riser tube then raise the water level.

what do you mean by raising the water level? The skimmer is full of water now and is being used as a HOB.

He's saying that you need to raise the water level in the skimmer by restricting the output, or whatever method of adjustment that particular skimmer uses. If you can make adjustments do it in slow increments until you're producing skimmate into the collection cup.

What's your bioload like? Perhaps it doesn't have anything to pull. Assuming it's set up right.
