I'm picking one up in a few hours and was wonding if I should be looking into a mesh top. I would like to stay open top if I can.

I have lost one to jumping. I'd suggest at least egg crate, or better yet, a mesh top. I've lost several smaller/thinner fish to jumping even with eggcrate.

I think most wrasse jump, but 6 line are real bad about it just cover the the top or back of canopy and overflow (if you have a canopy)

^+1. I don't know of a wrasse that isn't a jumper.

Up to 12 feet. In captivity, after extensive strength training, they have been known to jump up to 16 feet and do a reverse dunk.

Trust me, wrasses are prone to jump. I would bet 6-lines less so, because they like to cruise the bottom, but I lost a radiant and a mystery who decided to carpet surf. All it takes is for something to change in your tank--a new fish, new live rock, age of fish (fishes' minds tend to change as they age)--for your wrasse to start behaving differently. If something spooks it, it will not hesitate to leap.

yeah.. my tank is 30" wide and about 10" of that has a glass brace, then my hood is about a foot tall and filled with a big reflector so i think im good either way.

I have a good size 6-line and it has yet to jump. It was curious about what was in the overflow the first day I had it and did go in there but as for jumping no. Mine cruises the top of the tank all the time as well.

I guess milkit and I are the exceptions.

Looks like I'm going to be fabbing up a mesh top. I have a nice glass top for the tank but I don't like the heat it holds it, nor can I open it w/o taking my fixture off.
