hello all im in iraq and wife is looking after tank. So i was talking to her today and she mentioned that she had not had to change the collection cup in 2 months now and its still not full. its set all the way up to where it will and should skim like crazy. what could be wrong if anything. She said everything appears to be in good working order.

Maybe the pump on it needs some cleaning? Everything was setup and in good running order before you left, correct? Btw, thank you for your service.

Thank you for your service is right! Respect from my end you will receive when you are fighting for our freedom and rights! :)
Has she checked the venturi hose to make sure it is not clogged. Just dump some hot RO/DI water down it, might be salt build up... Then go onto to the pump being cleaned...

What skimmer do you have? Not knowing that I would ask her to do as Nereaga suggested to ensure it is getting air. If it has excessive build up in the neck she may need to wipe it out. Let us know what type of skimmer you have and we can possibly help you with more suggestions.
And yes, thank you all for your service. I wish we had been allowed to finish what we started in '91 so that you folks wouldn't have to do it. Be safe!

It might help if you asked her to take a pic of the skimmer, just to check the water level

I know what it's like to care for a tank when you're down range. I went to the box for OIF 06-08.
If she can't get it going, remember there are people who run nice tanks without skimmers. So if it's not working it's not terrible.
Maybe she need to dump the cup and clean out the neck. My Remora doesn't skim much until I clean out the neck where the bubbles come up. If it's dirty, maybe the bubbles are popping before they get to the top.
Is there a fish shop or club near by that you trust? Is there an aquarium maintenance service you could ask to look at it?
Just some other ideas.
Stay safe and you'll be home before you know it.

My skimmer for some reason just stopped producing skimmate. I cleaned everything and no change. So I raised the output tube (basically valve gate mod) so the bubbles would come up to the collection cup. Now I am cleaning the cup out ever week compared to pretty much never.
