In the last couple weeks i have started dosing Mb7. I have a 90g reef that has been up and running for a while now. in the last few days i have started to notice some red slime growing on one of my rocks. it is in a fairly high flow area in the middle of the tank. could the addition of bacteria be causing this recent outbreak? parameters as of sunday are:
all tests are salifert
alk- 10.9
phosphates- undetectable
ph- 8.0-8.3(in between these two colors)
magnesium- 1495
calcium- 435

flow is provided by 2 mp40w's, a modded k3(with k4 prop), and a koralia nano for kicks and giggles.
lighting is 3x250 phoenix 14k's and 2x160 vho actinics

if red slime is cyano....i think the solution is more mb7 or less vodka.

i've found that if you OD on vodka or bacteria i get like diatoms. when i stopped it went away. then i start dosing alot less and notice a decrease in that type of algae. ask sunnyx he's big on dosing vodka and mb7

Is red slime bacteria? and by adding MB7 (more /different kinds of bacteria) -- the new and different bacteria competes for food and kills off redslime..??

shaggy, I don't know if I will get answer on my question, but when i got redslime, I doubled the doseage of bacteria http://www.premiumaquatics.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=EL-SBH16&Category_Code=Mircobe
This made redslime go away with-in a week!

From my reading and experience the red slime can out compete the other bacterias in the tank for the carbon source (i.e. the cyano gets food and grows when dosing vodka) You didn't mention vodka in your post but if you are dosing it back off of it. Also how much MB7 are you dosing. A heavy dose might mean die off the skimmer cant handle meaning more nutrients meaning something for the red slime to eat. Lite dose might mean not enough bacteria to gobble up the nutrients in the tank and therefore an excess exsist for the redslime to consume.

Hope that made sense.

i do not dose vodka anymore. i experimented with it for a while and after the 3-4th week i started to get a little bit of red slime and some of the brown algae on the sand. that was the end of my vodka dosing. if my poor little tank can hang on for a couple more weeks, i plan on adding an SWC extreme 250a(askoll pump) to the tank. that should handle my 90g sps and however many fish i want to keep in it =)

I like the looks of that skimmer... I just bought a 12pac of SPS from them. all frags held thier color and had PE right out of the bag!
