I've used the traditional Instant Ocean in the past but for the last two years I've been using Oceanic. I've seen on here where some say Reef Crystals. Which brand is better and why?

Some are "formulated" for reefs, other just regular salt water. I used IO and have a semi reef so it all depends what works for you.

This must be one of the most frequently asked questions on Reef Central. The truth is that most salt mixes made for Reef aquariums will work fine, but each one has higher levels of some parameters & trace elements than others. There was a test done of many major brands by a testing company and the results were posted here at one point, so someone may be able to provide a link.

To answer your questions directly, Oceanic is a good salt mix. If I remember correctly it has the highest Calcium and Alkalinity levels of all the brands tested. Bottom line is, if it's working for you, there's no reason to change.
