i stopped in at a lfs and the owner was telling me his whole store was on a mud sump and basically told me it was the greatest thing since sliced bread!! i have a 125rr with a 65 gal sump i currently have live rock and sand in my sump just woundering how to set up a mud sump and what are the benefits. my assumption is that you start with a layer of sand add a layer of miracle mud and than a top layer of sand then plant it with live seaweed. this is my assumption and we all know what happens when we assume things so thats why im asking thanks for clearing this up for me Dan

Well, if you must have mud then I'll let Leng Sy tell you about setting it up-Ecosytems MM (http://www.ecosystemaquarium.com/products/miracle-mudr.html). I rather go with a DSB in that sump.

I talk about alternative methods, including mud, in Natural Filtration Part III (http://reefkeeping.com/issues/2008-06/newbie/index.php).
