I have one koralia 2 up high in my tank moving the surface water. But only half of the water is clear and the other is hazy. What would be recommended for a 55gal. tank and what positions? Thanks Lou

I would recommend 2 K4's, 6045's, or MP20's if you can. Might be a bit much but will solve your problems and prepare you for the long run. Hope that helps, Wiz ;)

+1 you can never have to much flow, and 1 K2 is definitely not enough. I was add a couple 3's and leave the 2 in there as well. Not only will this clear your water up, but will also keep detrius from collecting on your rock, sand etc.

You will be "koralia" shy when you first put them in. They move a lot of water and you will think its too much at first. Then about 2 weeks later you will wish you went with the bigger ones.

----I have 2 koralia 3's in my tank and wish I had the 4s... but the 4s are much larger.

aim for 20 to 40 times the volume of the tank
for the 55 about1100- 2200 gph

the surface of your tank should be really churning

Thanks cap! I thought I went a little overboard when I added another #4 to my tank. I have two #4, one #3 and a mag 9.5 that only pushes about 400gph in my 90. That comes out to 40.5x turnover.
The fish seam to love it, but feeding is a pain.

I'm getting the new CoralVue Dual Prop that's rated at 1500gph and adding it to my 54gal that has a Korallia 1 and 3. I should end up with about 3000gph in a fully mixed reef.

I was wondering the same thing. I have a 55 gal tank and have a #2 at one end and a #1 at the other. At first I had two #3s but thought it was too much water movement so I went and bought a #2 and #1. I do have some soft corals (bubble coral and frogspawns) which I understand don't like a lot of water movement so have them placed by the #1 Koralia. However, the #1 do not generate much water movement. I have it pointed upwards. My question also would be - can the soft corals (bubble and frogspawn) withstand the flow of a #2. If so, I may replace my #1 with the #2 and put my #3 back in.

same as me george, and im going to add another ph, its all about positioning, 40x is fine, im going to be nearer 50 soon:)

I think two k3s would be to much..... just two of the k2s should be fine... also depends on what you are trying to keep

its not that frogspawn and bubble coral don't like flow--its that they don't like it directed right at them.
Koralias have the advantage of not giving directed flow but the disadvantage of giving a wide coverage of flow radiating out from the power head. As suggested creative placement of the pumps and corals will allow you to maximize flow in the tank.
If I get called to a tank with an algae problem I can pretty well guess that they have little to no flow in that tank and the first thing I recommend is to increase it with Koralias

I have two K3's in my 55 gallon and sometimes I think it isn't enough flow. I wouldn't go with any less. I may add a small powerhead behind by rockwork to maintain flow and prevent detrius buildup. I have a DSB in the tank as well, at first the K3's blew up a lot of sand, but after a while, the sand band formed a crust and is now stable.

2 k2s in a 55 isn't enough imo, even for a softie tank, the k2s are pretty crap imo, i have 3 in my tank, use to have 5-6, im replacing them slowly, i just dont rate them at all, 2 k3s or even 4s would be better, just my view :)

Agreed. I just bought another K2 and I'm already wishing it was a 3

I was glad that I opted for the K3 as it is the same size as the K2. Flow is good, but now I need more!

I have a K4 and a 6045 in my 46g. It's not too much flow for the corals or the fish. But I only have a couple of corals so far.
